A directory listing is a discovery record. It is not an endorsement, ownership claim, or promise that every collection is available under the same terms. Review each listing and source before using the data.

What Buyers Should Be Able to Evaluate

Purpose and intended use

The listing should say whether the collection supports training, fine-tuning, retrieval, evaluation, analysis, or another specific job. “AI data” is too broad to make a buying decision.

Schema and format

Buyers need sample records, field definitions, data types, allowed values, file formats, and the relationships between files. CSV, JSON, JSONL, Parquet, and media manifests solve different delivery needs.

Coverage and freshness

Coverage should identify the dates, regions, languages, industries, entities, or product families represented. Time-sensitive collections need an update schedule and a visible last-updated date.

Source and preparation

A marketplace record should distinguish first-party data, licensed data, public sources, human research, generated examples, and derived fields. It should also explain cleaning, normalization, labeling, and duplicate controls.

License

The license should address commercial use, internal use, redistribution, derivative products, model training, retrieval, attribution, and prohibited uses. If a right is important and the license is silent, ask before buying.

Quality and limitations

Useful listings disclose missing values, known bias, class balance, validation methods, error rates where measured, and conditions the dataset was not designed to represent.

Row count is easy to advertise and often a poor measure of value. Compare the cost of reproducing the collection, the exclusivity of the source, freshness, labeling effort, validation, documentation, permitted uses, delivery method, and expected maintenance.

A smaller dataset with reliable labels and clear rights can be worth more than a much larger collection assembled from uncertain sources. The expensive part may be the confidence, not the gigabytes.

Submit a Dataset

Dataset creators, publishers, and vendors can submit a dataset for directory review. A useful submission includes:

Plain-language purpose and intended users
Formats, schema, and sample records
Source and collection method
Coverage dates and update schedule

Known limitations
Official source or purchase URL

Incomplete submissions may still be listed when the missing information is made explicit. The directory should show uncertainty, not decorate around it.

Marketplace Status

The current release is a public discovery and education layer. Buyers can browse listings and follow source links. Creators can submit collections for review. On-site accounts, transactions, paid downloads, revenue sharing, and metered API delivery remain future phases.

That order is deliberate. A marketplace needs a trustworthy catalog before it needs a checkout button.
